Charles has served as a Municipal Court Judge in the City of Plainfield for a total of eight (8) years. He is a member of the Bar of the State of New Jersey (1974) and the District of Columbia (1973) and is licensed to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. District Court of New Jersey.

He is the Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Black United Fund of New Jersey, Inc.

Served as Basileus (President), Eta Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and is currently active in the Eta Pi Chapter, Montclair NJ. He also served on the Boards of the Morris School District, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Plainfield Neighborhood House, the Morristown Neighborhood House, the New Jersey Public Policy Research Institute and Art In The Atrium, Inc.

Bro. Charles married Sis. Victoria Clark Craig in 1970. They are the proud parents of two daughters – Simone and Lauren and grandparents of Victoria Charleigh.
